HCF to resurvey of Hawaii nonprofit EDs after a decade

Hawaii Community Foundation has teamed up with CompassPoint and the Meyer Foundation to revisit the executive director study done in Hawaii ten years ago.  The foundation sent emails to Hawaii nonprofit executive directors and CEOs with a link to the questionnaire on Oct. 19 and hopes to have at least 250 responses.

“This survey gave us some incredibly valuable insights into the challenges and tenure issues of EDs,” said Christine Van Bergeijk, HCF vice president for Programs.  “We used what we learned to create our leadership program (PONO).  We’re really anxious to see what the field looks like after ten years.”

The foundation encourages EDs to participate in the 2011 Daring to Lead national survey to help all of us learn more about the career paths, tenure, challenges and professional development needs of nonprofit executive directors.

The first two Daring to Lead studies-published in 2000 and 2006 are available in PDF format at this address. They have been described as two of the highest-impact studies of nonprofits in the last several years.

The 2011 Daring to Lead national survey is only for current Executive Directors in nonprofit organizations. The survey should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete and is confidential and anonymous.  The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, Nov.  19.

If you have problems or questions, contact HCF’s Cheryl Kaneshiro at daringtolead@hcf-hawaii.org or Leslie Brown, Daring to Lead research associate, at LeslieB@compasspoint.org or (415) 541-9000 ext. 335.

CompassPoint will collect and analyze the data and the report summarizing the data will be published in Spring 2011 and distributed nationally to grant makers and nonprofits. Nationwide, some 3,000 executive directors across are expected to complete the survey.
