Training for child caregivers will enhance relationships

Want to be able to understand your children in a way that helps you build healthy relationships and connections with them?  Then come to Hawaii Adoption & Permanency Alliance's workshop, “Can I Trust You? Building Healthy Connections for a Lifetime,” on Saturday, Nov. 6, for tools, resources and support.

Speakers Deeanna Wallace and Kanani Krafft, of HOPE INC, Inc. will provide training that empowers caregivers – especially resource and adoptive families – to connect with children who have mental health diagnoses, special needs and challenging behaviors such as disrespect, defiance, aggression, hording food and lying.

The session will be from 9 a.m. to noon at Kalihi Union Church. There will be a free breakfast, childcare for ages 3-12 and activities for teenagers ages 13-18.

A similar training, “Can I Trust You? Building Healthy Relationships in Your Home,” will be offered statewide by the Department of Human Services and Family Programs Hawaii on Oahu on Nov. 5, in West Hawaii on Nov. 29, and on Kauai on Dec. 8. Workshops were already held in Hilo and on Maui in October.
