The Hawaii Civil Rights Commission in partnership with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s Honolulu Local Office presents “EEO in Hawaii: Updates and Trends,” a workshop from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Blaisdell Exhibition Hall, Pikake Room, 777 Ward Ave., Honolulu. Registration opens with refreshments available at 7:30.
The program includes a panel discussion, “EEO Basics and Conducting Workplace Investigations,” which explores how to conduct internal investigations of discrimination complaints, featuring HCRC Deputy Director Marcus Kawatachi, Sarah Wang and moderator Tracey Wiltgen. Commissioner Les Ueoka will welcome attendees and Dwight Takamine, director of the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations will speak on “Civil Rights in Hawaii – Perspectives of a New Administration.”
EEOC Commissioner Chai Feldblum and HCRC Commission Chair Linda Krieger will discuss “The New EEOC Regulations Implementing the ADAAA and Proposed HCRC Disability Rule Amendments” and answer questions from the audience.
HCRC Executive Director Bill Hoshijo and Veronika Geronimo, executive director of the Hawaii State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, will discuss EEO laws passed during the 2011 session of the state legislature, focusing on new protections and accommodations for domestic and sexual violence victims.
Former HCRC Commissioner Sara Banks will present the winners of the E Ola Pono campaign contest, which was sponsored by HCRC, the UH Center on Disability Studies, Hawaiian Telcom, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the Jack Johnson Ohana Foundation.
