Hawaii Public Radio makes its fall fund drive goal

Hawaii Public Radio’s semi-annual pledge drives are often seen as economic barometers.  HPR met its $861,000 fall pledge drive goal at 5:12 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, ten days after it began.

HPR President Michael Titterton said he was concerned on Tuesday when donations slowed, and he had planned to continue the drive into next week. “But to our great surprise there has been a surge over the past two days,” he said. “The spirit is alive and well.”

The fundraiser started Oct. 12 with $122,364 in pre-drive funds. “Now, As Never Before” was the theme for this year’s Celebration 2011 fall drive. Approximately 300 volunteers participated in this year’s fall drive.

HPR holds fundraisers in the spring and fall. The $831,000 goal for the drive held in April was met on the ninth day of the scheduled 10 fundraiser days, eventually finishing at $833,110.
