The American Society of Association Executives will present "Associations and Social Responsibility: Carrying the Movement Forward," an online event on Oct. 14 through 16 as a follow-up to last April's Global Summit on Social Responsibility. The event is free of charge. Click here for more information and to register. The summit event web site will be launched on Oct. 8 and will allow participants to exchange thoughts and ideas before the event begins on Oct. 14.
"Our members and guests who attended the Global Summit made it clear that they want to continue the social responsibility movement and have set a number of goals to implement the social responsibility initiative in the community and their organizations," said John Graham, ASAE & The Center president and CEO. The online summit will feature panel discussions and presentations from thought leaders and Project Action Teams created at the Global Summit to discuss issues facing associations and nonprofits. The teams have identified short-term, mid-term and long-term goals and will present their suggestions for future action.
ASAE & The Center have recently released a draft of Guiding Principles for Socially Responsible Associations, the product of a working group of diverse representatives from associations, charities and business partners that have worked closely with their colleagues and the United Nations. Drafting the principles was a key goal of the Global Summit. The 30-point document guides associations on becoming more socially responsible in areas related to association and nonprofit management. The areas include advocacy, leadership, ethics, diversity, self regulation, human rights, philanthropy and community service, and environmental and economic sustainability.
