"If you have a child who would like to try their hand in the essay contest, they may want to start writing, as the deadline for contest submissions is Oct. 3," she advises. - Hawaii Leader For a Day Essay Writing Contest -- This is a great opportunity for foster children or youth with a talent for writing. Students in Grades 6 to 12 are eligible to participate by submitting an essay. Selected students will shadow elected legislative officials for a day during the 2009 Legislative Session. Deadline for essays is noon, Friday, Oct. 3.
- Hawaii Foster Youth Coalition -- Follow this link to the Hawaii Foster Youth Coalition’s MySpace page. The Hawaii Foster Youth Coalition’s is a youth-led organization based in Hawaii that advocates for foster youth and offers resources that allow Hawaii foster youth to meet and share experiences.
- Resource Brochure for Foster and Former Foster Youth -- The Hawaii Foster Parent Association has put together a brochure with valuable information for youth who are or will be living independently including contact information for Youth Circles, which help youth plan their futures.
