KPAA sponsors Lihue development planning

Lihue, often called the "heart of Kauai," is the government and commercial center of the island. Kauai County will soon begin to update the Lihue Development Plan defining what Lihue should look like in 30 years.

Kauai Planning and Action Alliance invites Kauai community members to join friends and neighbors in November to participate in this plan. Two town hall meetings will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 12 and 14 at the Veteran's Center. This program is sponsored by KPAA in partnership with the County of Kauai and the Lihue Business Association.

The American Institute of Architect's Sustainable Design Assessment Team will help create recommendations for the plan. Emphasis will be on five areas of importance to the Lihue District: 1) Land use, including agriculture, smart growth, housing and affordability; 2) Energy efficiency and alternative energy; 3) Water and wastewater; 4) Transportation and transit; and 5) Economic development, including education, employment, workforce, retirees and solid waste.
