Hawaii is one of seven states to share in nearly $21.2 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Labor to improve education, training and employment opportunities for disabled people who are unemployed or under-employed.
Hawaii’s state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations will receive more than $2.9 million in funding under the Disability Employment Initiative, which benefits those who are receiving Social Security disability benefits, the federal Labor Department said in a statement.
The other states receiving the new grants are California, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington and Wisconsin. Nine other states participate in the initiative with continuing grants.
