Nonprofits tend to collect lots of old, donated business machines, phones, printers and computers. When it’s time to get rid of them, however, throwing them in the dumpster isn’t a viable solution anymore. Thankfully, rather than pay someone to haul them away, nonprofits can now register as participants for Hawai‘i’s Education & Government eWaste Disposal Days 2008, sponsored by the University of Hawai‘i. This program reduces pollution through earth-friendly disposal of unwanted end-of-life electronics in an environmentally safe manner, free of charge.
The registration link above is not for individuals, however. Hawai‘i residents who wish to dispose of personal eWaste through should click here.
The recycling program is open to all Hawai'i residents, all public and private schools and universities; all City, County, State and Federal/Military branches in Hawaii, small to medium sized businesses with less than 100 employees and nonprofits. A representative of each participating organization is requested to estimate in advance of the amount of eWaste that they expect to dispose of using the links at the bottom of this eWaste web page.
Drop-off hours are from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at each site on these dates:
Before recycling of your eWaste you may want to check whether it can be re-used by someone else. University of Hawaii units can transfer surplus equipment within the University via the UH Online Swap Meet. For a list of options for donating your equipment for re-use to a nonprofit charity click here.
