Hawaii Fair Share Initiative can assist local nonprofits

From Jacce Mikulanec, Office of the Lieutenant Governor

State and local governments, businesses and nonprofits in Hawaii and around the country find themselves in an ever more competitive environment of shrinking resources. In response, the Abercrombie administration created the Hawaii Fair Share Initiative to help bolster our economy and support Hawaii's aggressive pursuit of available federal and private funding.

FSI’s mission is to assist public and private organizations to improve their ability to acquire and effectively expend additional dollars. Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz’s years as a nonprofit executive have contributed to the vision behind the FSI which is administered through his office and run by Director Lynn Heirakuji, and Jacce Mikulanec, deputy director.

FSI is currently assisting nonprofits with these services:

  • Providing notice of relevant grant opportunities.
  • Forming and facilitating grant partnerships between nonprofits and state agencies.
  • Troubleshooting and facilitating resolution of grant issues.
  • Supporting grant applications through executive and departmental endorsement.
