Hawaii building industry offers training grants

The Hawaii Building Industry Foundation has received a $30,000 grant from the Haseko Training Fund which is administered by the Hawai’i Community Foundation to support its work force development efforts. This grant will offer adults 18 and older in the Ewa Community an opportunity to participate in a pre-apprenticeship construction training project named "ComPACT: Building Skills to Build Lives."

Karen T. Nakamura, foundation executive director, said, “This generous grant from the Haseko Training Fund will support our community educational outreach programs. We target non-traditional students who are unemployed and underemployed, so these funds will provide opportunities for participants to gain the necessary knowledge and job skills for entry level positions in the construction industry."

Applications are available online at www.biahawaii.org or may be picked up at the Construction Training Center of the Pacific and the Hale Pono Ewa Beach Boy’s and Girls’ Club.  For more information, contact Barbara Nishikawa, Construction Training Center of the Pacific, (808) 847-4666 ext. 212 or bln@biahawaii.org.
