Hawaii Public Radio at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, finished its fall pledge drive, raising a record $743,747. It was the first time in recent memory that HPR needed more than ten pledge-drive days to raise operating funds.
“Not achieving our goal was simply not an option, and we are very grateful for this amazing outpouring of support for our public radio service,” said HPR President and General Manager Michael Titterton.
By Friday at 6 p.m., the nonprofit had reached 97 percent of its goal and Titterton decided to suspend the drive until Saturday morning, its 11th day. HPR’s goal was $741,000, but the record-breaking 2,707 pledges exceed that amount by $2,747. The funds support station programming costs for the next six months.
