Nonprofits to push for voter participation

As the Nov. 4 Election Day approaches, nonprofits across the nation are working to make sure that their clients and constituents can vote successfully. Even at this late date, there are STILL a number of easy, super low-cost and super-effective things nonprofits can do to get the vote out.

The state's online Hawaii Voters' Guide provides information on the Constitutional Convention, amendments to the State Constitution and City Charter, early voting site, polling places, candidates, voters rights and much more.

In addition, national web sites, such as the Nonprofit Voter, provide lots of easy ways to help your community vote on Nov. 4.  For example, here are four easy things nonprofits can do in the last week before the election to increase voter participation in your community:

• Make sure people know where to get help on Nov. 4
• Sign up Election Day volunteers
• Give out voter guides and sample ballots
• Make Election Day Democracy Day
