Nonprofit organizations focus on alleviating poverty, providing employment services, promoting community health and well-being, and more, for our clients, but we don’t pay enough attention to these issues for our own employees. The health of our sector as an employer directly impacts the effectiveness of our organizations and our ability to meet our goals, missions and mandates.
Decent Work is one of the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals and promotes inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all.
HANO is launching a campaign to identify and share the implications of Decent Work for Hawaii’s nonprofit sector. We see Decent Work as broadly encompassing issues like nonprofit salaries and benefits at all levels of employment; creating diverse, equitable and inclusive work opportunities and workplaces; understanding and communicating the true cost of doing business and creating quality outcomes; succession and the talent pipeline and much more.
Help us shape this statewide effort. Join us to talk story in Honolulu about:
- What Decent Work issues are critical to address on O’ahu (and statewide)
- What’s in place to support Decent Work conditions/what changes need to be changed to improve conditions
- Practices and policies that would promote Decent Work
- How our sector can act as a champion to support these practices and policies
